HMSG-Special-SKEDDA

Welcome to Hershey's Mill Sports

SKEDDA Scheduling Software

SKEDDA pronounced /sked-dah/

is a web based software system used by Hershey’s Mill for scheduling court time. Being web based means that you can schedule future playing time from any browser on any device you have. Court time can be scheduled for the following Sports:

  • Billiards
  • Bocce
  • Horseshoes
  • Pickleball
  • Platform Tennis
  • Shuffleboard
  • Table Tennis
  • Tennis

These 8 Sports (see left column) record their Open Play times and other planned events in SKEDDA for all to see. This allows you to see the remaining available time slots that you can use for your personal reservation.

Since we live in an active community, we need to have some guidelines on the utilization of reservations.  Please obey these rules out of respect for your fellow sport enthusiast.

  • If you make a reservation and decide not to use it, go back into SKEDDA and delete it ASAP so other players can use that time slot.
  • Maximum time for each reservation is set by the particular Sports leaders. Any deviation you would like must be taken up with the appropriate sport leadership.
  • Any system type issues, questions or other concerns that you have making a reservation, please bring to our attention using the form at the bottom of this page.

Skedda Sports Courts Reservation Rules

  1. Open Play allows anyone to come to the courts to play, knowing there will be other residents there to play with.  If more than four people arrive for Open Play then players will be rotated onto the court, in a fair manner, to play on a first come first serve basis.
    • Open Play can be pre booked for the entire season.
    • Open Play must not use all courts but allow for at least two free courts for others, on the Tennis Courts, and at least one free court elsewhere for those not interested in Open Play.
    • Open Play creates a social atmosphere. It is generally a more structured time organized by the Sports leader. We want to encourage Open Play without excluding others who just want to play by themselves.
  2. Court reservations can be made up to two weeks in advance, for one day at a time.
  3. One court per day can be reserved under one name.
  4. Any allocation of time up to two hours can be reserved.
  5. A reservation can be made for any time.  There are no preset time slots.
  6. Use of the ball machines should be booked through Skedda for whatever time allocation up to two hours per day.
  7. Under the honor system, we expect players who are not going to be using their court to cancel their reservation so that others may use the court.
  8. If more than one group shows up for a court time, the Skedda reservation will be honored and those who have not booked in advance should leave.
  9. Violations by any individual will result in revoked scheduling privileges.
  10. Policies are subject to change.

It is important to realize that any resident can use any of the Sports facilities whether or not they have registered for HMSG and/or one or more Sports.

In other words, simply stopping down and using a sports facility is fine if it has not already been scheduled by anyone.

To ensure that you don’t run into conflicts, it makes sense to simply schedule the resource that you would like to utilize ahead of time.

[In such a case, the group who made the reservation would have the right to the court]

We Use SKEDDA to maintain our reservations!

  1. You do need to do a “1” time request of SKEDDA Access if you plan on using it to schedule time for one of the Sports facilities.
  2. With or Without SKEDDA access, anyone may view the schedule by clicking on the link.

If you would like to stay informed of HMSG plans and events, make sure you join HMSG if you have not already done so. You will be added to that mailing list.

Likewise, if you want to know what’s going on in particular sport, let them know so they can add you to their unique mailing list.

If you have already followed the “Request SKEDDA Access” procedure and have your Userid & Password, click on the image to the right to view and/or schedule reservations.

  • Doing so without your Userid & Password will only let you view existing reservations.

Bocce league completes its 2020 season

The Bocce league completed its 2020 season with a fun and competitive 8 team playoff. The week of September 21 featured 2 semi-final matches and the championship match. Enthusiastic crowds were present for all the matches.

In the semi-finals:

Bob Bevan / George Groff def Gretchen Dellatorre / Peter Heinly — 12 – 4

Angelo / Marie DiCandilo def Joanne O’Connor / Lydia Voight — 12 – 2

In the finals:

Angelo / Marie DiCandilo def Bob Bevan / George Groff 12 – 2

We are hoping that next year we can return to our full bocce program — clinics, village play, hot dog nights, open play, holiday gatherings — as well as league play.

Bocce 2020 – Welcome – from Joe Carrone

Welcome to the kickoff of this year’s bocce league which we are planning to start right after the July 4 holiday weekend. This is the first of several emails you will be receiving,

80 residents (40 teams) have signed up — we will set up 5 groups of 8 teams each (you will be assigned a team number and the group you will be in) — and you will be playing 7 matches over the course of the summer.
  • Subsequent emails will focus on reserving courts, reporting scores, rules, playoffs and upcoming special events.
  • You will have to follow the covid-related protocols that were previously sent to you (eg mask, gloves, social distancing)
For detail information on Covid protocols, See: https://hersheysmill.org/hmsg-organization/hmsg-bocce/

We will delay creating and releasing the roster for a few days, because traditionally in the past, several teams have decided at the last minute to drop out. We had to rearrange the groups and send out multiple emails, which got confusing to everybody. So — if you have changed your mind and decided not to play, please email Joe Carrone at trejoe2@gmail.com — by today or tomorrow — we would greatly appreciate it and make our volunteering job much easier.

On a positive note, we have modified the ends of courts by cutting out a 3 foot section of the sideboards to allow for easier access to the playing field. This will help greatly in social distancing. Our thanks to Ed McFalls who took our suggestion and made it happen. See pics below.

We would also like to acknowledge all the hard work that John DeVol put in to allow the Bocce Program to return this year.
Bocce has grown to be one of the most popular activities here in the Mill and we are excited to be part of it. Thank you John

Remember our rules — have fun and meet your neighbors (and follow the protocols)

Cathy Jo Johnson Web Site Notice

Please be aware that we have a new web page in the Pickleball group that may be of interest to anyone who has been locked in for months and starting to think about getting back to sport activities.
Initially we were thinking of publishing some exercises and stretches that folks may want to see but thought better of it realizing that we did not have the expertise or infrastructure to support questions and concerns you may have about them. Instead we contacted a web site owner who runs a site that does “exactly that” so we could “Borrow” a few video’s they have on “Warming-up” and “Stretching”.
Her name is Cathy “Jo” Johnson and her site is: https://www.cjjohnsonglobal.com/  – It is about Fitness for Seniors and playing Pickleball (but fitness will help us all)
  • She wrote a short intro to Hershey Mills Community and shared a few links to her site that you may be interested in.
This page can be reached by the menus at the top of any HM Sports Group Page -and-
also from the main pickleball page !
Hope it helps and hope to see you out there before too long!
