Welcome: Learn all about your new Pickleball machine!
Pickleball - Tudor Plus
Pickleball Tutor PLUS Specifications:
This is the # 1 rated Pickleball machine available. Pickleball Tutor Plus (w/options selected) is easily adjustable to shoot all the shots both new and experienced players need to practice against including:
- Dinks, Lobs, Serves, Drives, Groundstrokes
- Topspin and Backspin – A single dial controls the amount of topspin or backspin
- Delivers shots randomly across the court for hitting on the run
- Holds 110 pickleballs
- Ball Speed – Adjustable from 10 MPH to 65 MPH
- Ball Feed – From every one second (for quick-reaction volleys) to every 10 seconds
- Start-up time delay allows time to get to the other side of the net before balls begin shooting
- Automatically shoots to two preset court positions
- Ball trajectory is controlled by a simple electronic switch on the control panel rather than the manual knob control
- Weighs only 22-29 lbs. so it is easily carried, plus includes lightweight tow cart for easier transport
If you would like training on the use of the Machine, please let us know by using feedback form or emailing your COS team.
In the interim, please check out these instructions as well as the video review…
Safety First (Please Read)
- Do NOT stand or walk in front of ball ejection opening.
- Do NOT insert hands or foreign objects into the machine.
- Do NOT operate when Wet. Do NOT use if balls are wet (we would also like the machine to stay in fine working order).
- Please use Caution on speed control (It claims that its highest setting can throw at 60 - 65 miles an hour).
- If a Ball gets stuck, TURN off machine before trying to clear it. Better still, also pull plug.
- It has been highly suggested by a few of the early users that it is helpful to have a partner when operating the machine.
The machine must be scheduled using SKEDDA!
It will be the last column on the Pickleball SKEDDA grid.
It is important to realize that any resident can use any of the Sports facilities whether or not they have registered for HMSG and/or one or more Sports groups.
In other words, simply stopping down and using a sports facility is fine if it has not already been scheduled by anyone.
To ensure that you don’t run into conflicts, it makes sense to simply schedule the resource that you would like to utilize ahead of time.
[In such a case, the group who made the reservation would have the right to the court]
We Use SKEDDA to maintain our reservations!
- You do need to do a “1” time request of SKEDDA Access if you plan on using it to schedule time for one of the Sports facilities.
- With or Without SKEDDA access, anyone may view the schedule by clicking on the link.
If you would like to stay informed of HMSG plans and events, make sure you join HMSG if you have not already done so. You will be added to that mailing list.
Likewise, if you want to know what’s going on in particular sport groups, let them know so they can add you to their unique mailing list.

Watch Video below for Operation Tips.
While watching this Video, understand that we have chosen the model with these attributes:
- We have Electric Model (No Battery)
- We have Electronic Elevation
- We have 2-line Oscillation
- We do NOT have a Remote Control
Operating Instructions
Please follow below in the order of the buttons/Dials as shown above.
- POWER – Pushing to the “ON” position begins a start-time delay period of 10 seconds before pickleballs are thrown.
- Elevation – Push button UP or DOWN to adjust trajectory of shots. This will likely take some practice.
- OSCILLATOR – If you wish to have balls shoot directly where pointed, make sure toggle is level (off). To have balls go back and forth to two alternating spots, set toggle to 2-Line. To have machine toss balls in a sweeping motion across the court, set to Random.
- There is NO remote button.
- RESET – If the Pickleball machine shuts off while balls are still loaded in the hopper, turn the power switch OFF. Remove all balls and see if a ball is jammed in the hopper or between/under one of the throwing wheels. Remove the ball and turn power switch on.If machine does not power on, the Reset button may have tripped. In that case, turn machine off and push reset button until it locks in place. Turn the machine on again and test.==> If the machine shuts off again or does not power up, contact a Pickleball COS member and put machine in shed & Cover.
- Ignore Charge (used only in battery units)
- SPIN – Use this Dial to have balls bounce Flat or have it produce Backspin or Topspin (each up to 4 levels of difficulty)
- INTERVAL – How much time do you want in between thrown balls? Turning clockwise increases the frequency of balls thrown (approx. from 1 ball every 10 seconds to 1 ball every second). Again, you will need to experiment for what is right for you.
- SPEED – Please start at low setting and adjust. Turning clockwise increases the speed at which balls are thrown. Caution: It claims that its highest setting can throw at 60 miles an hour.

Welcome to Hershey's Mill Sports
Main Page
There are individual Sports activities as well as a Sports Committee...
As the diagram shows, our individual Sports are run by volunteer leaders within those sports. On a daily basis, that’s actually all that’s needed as all sports are autonomous with such day to day decisions such as: setting Open play, court rules etc.
These sports communicate and coordinate overall sports issues & events with the HM Sports committee who are guided by the rules and guidelines as set down in the HM Sports by-laws. Committee members are elected to year long terms (as are all HM committees).
HM Sports Committee members aside from working with the various sports are also responsible for “care taking” of the Sports Complex and Facilities as well as organizing such events as Holiday gatherings and other Social functions.
In these cases, individual sports are solicited for planning & support.
For HMSC Roles, responsibilities and current assigned members, scroll down this page a bit...
If you would like to receive updates from any of the Hershey's Mill individual Sports, please read the explanation below and decide whether you wish to use the submission form!
Every resident is by default a participant in the HM Sports Activities since they can freely use the facilities whenever they desire.
Residents who would like to receive emails concerning any individual sport(s) or Hersheys Mill sports in general may fill out the form below.
To Understand:
- By design, we try very hard to limit how often we bother residents so we make sure our emails are clearly targeted to those who want that information. These email list you sign up for will not be used for solicitations of any kind not relating to HM Sports.
- There are mailing lists for each of the various sports and you can sign up for 1 or more mailing lists on the particular sport pages for which you are interested in (ie.. staying abreast of their activities, events and open times).
- The various sports are responsible for communicating to their respective participants which is the vast majority of emails that are sent (therefore only folks signed up for that sport will receive it).
- Throughout the year, there is at least a handful of emails that are sent out by the leadership team for HMSC (Communications Role of HMSC) whereby the recipients are ALL Sports activities along with anyone who has informed HMSC that they would like to receive HMSC emails.
- If you have not participated in any sports yet but would like to receive these (more global type) HMSC emails, please use the form below to let us know that.
- If you would also like hearing (receiving emails) from 1 or more sports activities, let us know which ones you are interested in.
Request email communication from Sports
This submission will be received by the Email Admin team who will add your email to the Hershey’s Mill Sport(s) requested below.
Please provide your street # and street name (along with your Name & Email address) in order to verify that you are a resident of Hershey’s Mill Community.
If you would like to be on distribution list for one or more of the sport(s), please just enter them freeform (in any order), in the last box below!
Please note: If no sport is requested, you will only receive emails that are sent by the HM sports committee, not from any particular sport.
But for instance, if you specify Tennis and Bocce, you will also receive any emails that Tennis and Bocce leadership send out. Nobody bombards your inbox – these are simply informational emails that leadership think you would be interested in.

Senior Men’s Tennis League
The month of May brings the start of the Senior Men’s League (aka interclub tennis) season. The League consists of teams from ten clubs in Southeastern Pennsylvania and includes Aronimink, Merion, Philadelphia Cricket, and Idle Hour. The minimum age is generally 60 years old. An objective of the League is to provide competitive doubles matches for the players, typically five teams per match and nine matches per season.
- Virtually all matches are played on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 a.m.
- Play is on four types of court surfaces: grass, Har-Tru, hard, and of course, our own Tiger Turf.
- The season usually ends in mid-July.
Modern tennis balls must conform to certain criteria for size, weight, deformation, and bounce criteria to be approved for regulation play. The International Tennis Federation (ITF) defines the official diameter as 6.54–6.86 cm (2.57–2.70 inches). Balls must have masses in the range 56.0–59.4 g (1.98–2.10 ounces).
The standard length for an adult tennis racquet is 27 inches, but racquets are available in lengths ranging from 26.5 to 29 inches (29 inches is the legal maximum for tournament play).
Dimensions
Artificial turf tennis courts play consistently with comfort and safety.
- Are softer on knees and ankles.
- Do not crack or delaminate.
- Are designed to meet the highest playing standards dictated by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

The average size of a paddle blade is 17 centimeters (6.7 inches) long and 15 centimeters (5.9 inches) wide.
The international rules specify that the game is played with a sphere having a mass of 2.7 grams (0.095 oz) and a diameter of 40 millimetres (1.57 in).
The table is 2.74 m (9.0 ft) long, 1.525 m (5.0 ft) wide, and 76 cm (2.5 ft) high with any continuous material so long as the table yields a uniform bounce of about 23 cm (9.1 in) when a standard ball is dropped onto it from a height of 30 cm (11.8 in), or about 77%.
The game was invented in England in the early days of the 20th century and was originally called Ping-Pong, a trade name. The name table tennis was adopted in 1921–22 when the old Ping-Pong Association formed in 1902 was revived. The original association had broken up about 1905, though apparently the game continued to be played in parts of England outside London and by the 1920s was being played in many countries. Led by representatives of Germany, Hungary, and England, the Fédération Internationale de Tennis de Table (International Table Tennis Federation) was founded in 1926, the founding members being England, Sweden, Hungary, India, Denmark, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Austria, and Wales. By the mid-1990s more than 165 national associations were members.

History of Platform Tennis
In the fall of 1928, Scarsdale, NY neighbors James (Jimmy) Cogswell and Fessenden (Fess) Blanchard were on a hunt for an outdoors winter racquet sport close to home. They built a small, wooden raised court and bought a set of wooden paddles and spongy balls at a local store.
When they got tired of pulling balls out of snowbanks, they put up chicken wire fencing. After some debate, the men agreed that playing the ball off the screens added dimension to the game and broadened the skill set necessary for the sport.
This led them to build a multi-purpose wooden platform on a small strip of land on Cogswell’s property for deck tennis. The size and shape of that strip of land had a significant effect on the whole future of Platform Paddle Tennis.
Platform tennis uses a spongy ball measuring 2.5 inches (64 mm) in diameter and is heavier than a regular tennis ball.
Played with a paddle that is heavier than Pickleball paddle and extends 18 inches (460 mm) and which may have up to 87 holes measuring no more than 3⁄8 inch (9.5 mm) in diameter.
Platform tennis is derived from tennis, developed in 1928 at Fox Meadow Tennis Club in Scarsdale, New York by James Cogswell and Fessenden Blanchard.
